Today’s Episode Headings:

  • Spirit of Faith (Jazbah-e-Imani)
  • Justice and Fairness (Adl-o-Insaaf)
  • Keeping Promises (Wada ki Pabandi)

🌙 Spirit of Faith (Jazbah-e-Imani):

This quality became most evident when the commander of Bursa, Akrinos, investigated Osman and eventually accepted Islam. The Ottoman state honored him with the title of “Bey,” and he later became one of the renowned commanders of the Islamic state.

Several Byzantine commanders were impressed by Osman’s character, warfare tactics, and politics. Many newly converted commanders joined the ranks of the Ottomans, and numerous Islamic groups, driven by their passion for serving Islam, rallied under the Ottoman flag.

One such group was the “Ghazi-i-Room” or Roman Ghazis, an Islamic group responsible for guarding the Roman frontiers. Stationed on the borders since the Abbasid era, they gained extensive experience in jihad against Roman invasions. Their continuous presence on the frontlines strengthened their commitment to Islam and their belief in the Islamic system.

Another well-known group was “Al-Akhiyan” (The Brotherhood), formed by wealthy benefactors. This group provided financial support, hosted soldiers, and accompanied armies in service of the Ghazis of Islam. Many of its members were prominent merchants who dedicated their wealth to serving Islam.

The Al-Akhiyan group was highly respected for its contributions to building mosques, monasteries, shops, and inns. It also included distinguished scholars who promoted Islamic culture and instilled a passion for religion in people’s hearts.

Additionally, there was a group called “Hajiyat” or Pilgrims of the Land of Rum, whose mission was to spread Islamic knowledge, promote education, and develop a deep understanding of Islamic laws and interpretations. Several other groups also existed with the common goal of supporting Muslims, especially the Mujahideen.

⚖️ Justice and Fairness (Adl-o-Insaaf):

Most Turkish historians who recorded Ottoman history state that Ertugrul appointed his son Osman, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, as a judge in Qarajahisar after the city was conquered by Muslims in 684 AH (1285 AD).

Once, during a legal dispute, Osman ruled in favor of a Byzantine Christian against a Muslim. Surprised, the Byzantine asked Osman:
“How can you decide in my favor when I am not of your faith?”

Osman replied:
“How can I not rule in your favor when Allah, whom we worship, commands us to do so?”

Then he recited:

“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.” (Surah An-Nisa: 58)

Moved by Osman’s justice, the Byzantine commander and his people embraced Islam.

Throughout his reign, Osman I established justice in all the regions he conquered. He treated the conquered people fairly and refrained from oppression, cruelty, or exploitation, always adhering to divine commands:

“And those who do wrong – We will punish them with a severe punishment. Then they will be returned to their Lord, and He will punish them with a terrible torment. But as for those who believe and do righteous deeds – for them is a good reward, and We will speak to them gently by Our command.” (Surah Al-Kahf: 87-88)

Osman’s adherence to this divine principle was a testament to his faith, piety, wisdom, justice, kindness, and compassion.

🤝 Keeping Promises (Wada ki Pabandi):

Osman I was known for his unwavering commitment to fulfilling promises.

When the Byzantine governor of Fortress al-Ibad surrendered the keys to the Ottomans, he placed one condition:
“No Ottoman soldier shall enter the fortress by crossing the bridge.”

Osman strictly honored this agreement and ensured that his successors also upheld the pact. His loyalty to promises earned the Ottomans a reputation for integrity and trustworthiness.
